Sanctuary On The Hill Will Be Veterans Transition Community
Veterans Deserve Sanctuary On The Hill
Every day in the United States, over 16 million veterans are walking amongst us, which is around 6% of the population. If you're anything like me, you'd like to shake the hand of every one of them. While that's not an attainable mission, supporting a sanctuary dedicated to them is something we can do! Announced in 2022-23, Sanctuary On The Hill will be a 90+ acre regional, possibly national, home base in western Warrick County (near I69) for veterans seeking a community that understands the military world. Led by nonprofit Mission First, plans include hiking and horseback trails, a 4-acre lake, over 16,000 square feet dedicated to an activities center and overnight lodging, and most importantly, a haven for veterans to transition back to civilian life. Alongside Mission First, a $6.7 million grant from the Lilly Foundation, as well as local sponsorships and donations, are the lifeblood keeping this plan on schedule. While I have not served our great country, I come from a long line of veterans, and I can't wait for this sanctuary to open! Here are some pictures of the rendering from LA+D, the architects working on the project:
A Veteran Takes Their Own Life Every Two Days In Indiana
Mission First is a nonprofit organization spearheading this project and working overall to support veterans. When I watched this video, I couldn't get past the first line. Every two days, a veteran in Indiana takes their own life. Mission First is working to change this, but they need our help. Check out the video below for more information, and visit The Sanctuary On The Hill for donation and volunteer opportunities.
