Royal Rumble 2017 Predictions
This Sunday is the 30th annual Royal Rumble and it looks to be one of most star studded and unpredictable events in recent history. I have had quite a few people call into the studio to ask me what I thought would happen this year, so I thought it would only be fitting to answer that question publicly.
Having said that, I completely understand that there are many people out there who could care less about wrestling and don't understand why I like it. They say that it's "fake." Let me address that before I get into my predictions. Yes, wrestling is scripted. That's why they call it sports entertainment. Entertainment is the key word there. If you don't understand the entertainment value of wrestling, that's fine. It's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean someone is a "loser" or "weird" for enjoying it. So wrestling is "fake." The Walking Dead is fake as well but that doesn't stop you from watching it religiously every Sunday that it is on. Why? Because it is entertaining. Rant over...onto my predictions!
As mentioned, this year's Royal Rumble is packed full of big names like The Undertaker, Goldberg, and Brock Lesnar. Not only that, but for the first time in recent history, it seems like it is not clear as to who will walk away as the winner of that match. I find it hard to think about who will come out the winner because all of the big names that are in the match have potential Wrestle Mania matches already lined up. So, after much consideration, here are my predictions (in no particular order) as to who will win the 30th annual Royal Rumble match.
- 1
The Undertaker
The Undertaker threw his name in the hit as a participant for the Royal Rumble. Since it is in Texas, he is the local favorite, and it could set him up for a title match against John Cena...a match that has never happened at Wrestle Mania.
- 2
Finn Balor
While he is still on the injured list, he is scheduled to be back by Wrestle Mania. Could he return at the Rumble, win, and attempt to take back the title that he never lost? Don't rule it out!
- 3
Goldberg
This is a tough one. Why? Because it's very obvious that the WWE plans on having Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg at Wrestle Mania. However, Goldberg was the first guy to announce that he will be in the Royal Rumble and wants one more title shot. Could Brock somehow gain the WWE Universal Title before Mania and face Goldberg?
- 4
Kurt Angle
This seems somewhat unlikely, but Triple H recently said that this year's Royal Rumble will throw you a curve ball. Angle was announced as the first inductee to the Hall of Fame this year and was recently pulled from another wrestling promotion's event that takes place this weekend. Let's not rule out one more run in the WWE for Kurt Angle.
- 5
Sami Zayn
The Underdog from the Underground won a match against Seth Rollins on Raw that put him into the Rumble match. I can't help but think that they made it a big deal for him to earn his spot without some kind of long term payoff. It's rumored that the WWE wants a solid wrestling match in the main event of Wrestle Mania rather than a match with big names. Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens for the Universal Title?
