There are now an assortment of streaming platforms to choose from, but there is one option that Hoosiers seem to prefer above all others.

Anyone else miss the days when Netflix only charged $7.99/month for unlimited streaming without ads? One of my favorite parts about that era of streaming was the wide range of content available on one platform, but things have changed. Now, several networks have their own platforms with exclusive content, such as Max, Paramount+, Peacock, Disney+, and so on. Additionally, each option comes with its own price tag, making streaming more expensive than ever.

What States Stream Content the Most?

I currently have a handful of streaming subscriptions and definitely prefer some over others. In fact, I'm not alone. The website known as CableTV.com has found the most streaming-obsessed states, along with what particular platform is the most popular in each state. To do this, the website used Google Trends to analyze the search volume in each state for Netflix, Hulu, Max, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video. The search volume for each individual streaming service was added together to give each state a total obsession score out of 500.

The state that seems most obsessed with streaming is Vermont, which scored a 433 out of 500 in the website's ranking system. The Green Mountain State was also the only territory to crack 400 points. This really surprised me, as Vermont is a smaller state and also home to some very scenic views. Apparently, folks are spending much more time inside than I thought. Just behind Vermont were Oregon and Rhode Island, who each tied for second. Alaska came in third. Indiana was much further down the list, falling in the middle of the most and least streaming-obsessed states.

What is the Most Popular Streaming Service?

I had expected Netflix to be the most popular streaming service all around, but rather, it was second to another. According to CableTV.com, the most popular streaming service in the United States is Hulu, which merged with Disney+ in March 2024. Hulu still has its own app and is the top choice for folks in not only Indiana but also Kentucky, Tennessee (along with Netflix and Max), Wisconsin, Iowa, and even Mississippi. Vermont, like Tennessee, has multiple favorites, which include NetflixHuluMax, and Amazon Prime Video.

Hulu has been around since 2008 and remains one of the more affordable streaming options on the market. As of August 2024, plans start at just $9.99/month, but there are now plenty of ways you can bundle it with other services and save. For example, consumers can now watch HuluMax, and Disney+ with ads for $16.99/month or for $29.99/month without ads. Of course, more streaming services exist than just these, so it's simply a matter of what content you're looking to watch.
