Popular Clothing Store Chain Closing Vincennes Location Forever
A retailer specializing in women's fashions and accessories is shutting down its location in Southwest Indiana.

It's been a tough year for both the restaurant and retail industries. Many big chains, like Big Lots, for example, have filed for bankruptcy in recent months, shutting down stores nationwide. It seems that before 2024 comes to a close, another big retailer will take a financial hit, possibly contributing to the closure of one of their stores in southern Indiana.
Cato Fashions Shutting Down Its Vincennes Location
Cato Fashions currently has a storefront in Vincennes, Indiana, which can be found inside Kimmel Crossing at 648 Kimmel Rd. The store has announced that it will be ceasing operations on Dec. 24 and is currently hosting a huge closeout sale. The store may close even sooner, depending on how long supplies last. The chain is currently owned by The Cato Corporation, which was founded in 1946. The company operates around 1,000 stores in 31 states under the names "Cato," "Versona," "It's Fashion," and "It's Fashion Metro."
Why Is Cato Fashions Closing in Vincennes?
While we don't know the specifics surrounding the closure, we do know that The Cato Corporation reported a net loss of $15.1 million for the third quarter of 2024, as reported by Fashion United. According to PR Newswire, the company opened one store during that period and, year-to-date, has closed 13 stores. The company previously divulged plans to open up to 15 new stores and close up to 75 underperforming stores as leases expire throughout 2024.
