A California-based mattress manufacturer is closing its Southern Indiana factory and laying off more than 100 Hoosier workers.

California-based Resident Home is the parent company of several well-known mattress brands. Their inventory includes options from Nectar, DreamCloud, and Awara, all of which can be compressed and shipped directly to your home in a box. If you live in or around Southern Indiana and have ordered one of these mattresses from Resident Home, chances are it was made at their factory in Jeffersonville, Indiana. According to Inside Indiana Business, that same facility is now scheduled for permanent closure.

The 300,000-square-foot building began accommodating the e-commerce mattress business in March 2022. According to WISH TV, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation gave the company incentive-based tax credits based on job creation. However, just a few short years later, Resident Home informed the state at the beginning of February about plans to permanently shut down operations in Jeffersonville. As part of the closure, around 106 employees have been laid off.

Why is Resident Homes Leaving Southern Indiana?

Inside Indiana Business was informed by the company that operations are being consolidated into existing operations under its new affiliate, Ashley Furniture. The acquisition of Resident Home by Ashley Furniture occurred roughly one year ago in March 2024. At the time, Ashley reported that the goal was to expand their home furnishings assortment and global footprint. It's unclear just where Jeffersonville operations will be moved to, but it still looks like the mattress brands themselves are going nowhere.
