Newburgh Farmer’s Market Requiring Masks, Limiting Number of People Starting This Week
On Wednesday, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced he would be signing an executive order mandating that Hoosiers wear masks beginning Monday (July 27th, 2020) in an effort slow the spread of COVID-19 after the state has seen an increase in both positive cases and hospitalizations over the past month. Organizers of the Newburgh Farmer's Market have decided they will implement their own policy ahead of the Governor's mandate by asking vendors and visitors to the weekly market on the riverfront to begin wearing masks this starting this Saturday (July 25th).
The announcement was made Wednesday evening on the groups Facebook page and states that masks will be mandatory for all visitors to the market, and that disposable masks will be available for $1.00 each at the entrance to the market at the Old Lock & Dam Park. While the market has always welcomed and encouraged visitors to bring their families and spend a few hours enjoying everything the market has to offer, organizers are now asking you to leave the family at home in order to keep the number of people down, noting they will only allow 100 people at a time to be in the market area as an extra precaution.
The Newburgh Farmer's Market takes place every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to Noon through September 12th, and features a number of local vendors selling a wide variety of products from fresh produce and baked goods, to homemade soaps and other skin care products, as well as jewelry, handbags, and home decor. The weekly market also features live music from a local artist from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.
