I-69/Lloyd Expressway Ramp Closure to Take 30 Days to Complete
Attention, Evansville drivers! The southbound I-69 exit ramp to westbound Lloyd Expressway will be closed for about 30 days. Here's what that means for you.
If you have driven along the Lloyd Expressway over the past year or two, you have most certainly noticed all of the construction. These projects are all a part of TheLloyd4U initiative. This includes more than a dozen improvement projects along the Lloyd Expressway, including intersection improvements, bridge replacements, pavement replacements, and more.
The changes aim to help traffic flow better along the Lloyd Expressway. As you know, there has been construction on the eastside and westside that has been ongoing for a while. A few projects have already been completed on the Lloyd Expressway, including the displaced left turn intersection at State Road 66 and Epworth Road and at the Stockwell intersection. As the construction continues, so do the lane closures and more. Case in point, a new ramp closure from I-69 onto the westbound lanes of the Lloyd.
Major Changes on the Lloyd Expressway
According to a recent update from TheLloyd4U, there will be a lot happening on the Lloyd Expressway this week. On or after Thursday, March 19, the southbound I-69 exit ramp to westbound Lloyd Expressway will be closed for an anticipated 30 calendar days for completion of the new ramp configuration. So what does that mean for drivers who use I-69 to get onto the westbound Lloyd Expressway? A few loopholes...literally. The Lloyd4U says:
All four cloverleaf ramps will be open during this period for regular traffic. However, motorists will be directed to use three of the cloverleaf ramps for the recommended detour as indicated on the map. The detour route will be marked with signage.
Motorists who want to travel westbound on the Lloyd from southbound I-69 should take the southwest cloverleaf ramp to exit onto eastbound Lloyd and stay right. Proceed to the southeast cloverleaf ramp and then temporarily enter I-69 north. Crossing over the Lloyd from above, stay right to access the northeast cloverleaf ramp and access westbound Lloyd.
The diagram below will give you a visual of what that means.
While this might cause a little damper in your com.mute, it's certainly not as bad as some of the other areas drivers are challenged with along the Lloyd Expressway. Of course, all of this construction should lead to the Lloyd being more efficient and safer for people to navigate. That being said, we still have a way to go before those orange barrels are completely gone from the Lloyd Expressway with this project. You can take a look at the Lloyd4U project on the map below:
