Kentucky Town Dubbed One of the World’s Most Awkwardly Named Cities
One Kentucky town was a highlight on a website solely based on its dirty sounding name.
I'm sure that you have taken a little road trip in the past and have driven through some towns that greet you with their "Welcome to (insert town name here)" sign. The majority of these towns have pretty normal names. However, there are always some that you will see that will make you laugh out loud.
There have been a few towns that I have been to that always make me wonder "Who thought this was a good town name?" Sure, it might be catchy, but the jokes that can be made about the town name are endless. The first one that comes to my mind is French Lick, Indiana. While it's a beautiful little town, the name itself just sounds...well, dirty. All throughout the world, there are towns with funny names like that, and one Kentucky town was recently named among the 30 Most Awkwardly Named Cities in the World.
The website, Travel A Lot, has a list of the 30 Most Awkwardly Named Cities in the World. Some of these town names are quite funny. Out of all the possibilities, there was one town in Kentucky that made this list. It's a town name that when you hear it, your mind instantly goes into the gutter. I'd be lying if I said that mine didn't. Perhaps you have driven through this tiny Kentucky town in the past and had the same reaction when you saw the town's name. It's none other than Knob Lick, Kentucky. See, I told you that your mind would go into the gutter.
Here's what Travel A Lot said about Knob Lick:
This Kentucky town's name has a much more tame meaning than you may imagine. A knob is another name for a prominent hill, and a lick is a small transient stream. It makes you wonder why the town ever changed its name from Knob Creek—or Antioch, for that matter.
There's not much going on in Knob Lick. Just a few houses and a small gas station. While the tiny town itself might not have much going for it, the name, however, is another story. Let the Knob Lick jokes begin.
