There's just something delicious and all-American about a burger.  According to History, more than 50 billion (yes, with a B) burgers are served up annually in the United States alone.  While there seems to be a bit of controversy between Wisconsin, Connecticut, Ohio, New York, and Texas regarding where the first burger originated, we know that cheeseburgers were invented a little later in Pasadena, California.

According to Visit Pasadena, the first hamburger with cheese appeared on a menu in 1924.

The cheeseburger's genesis can be traced back to 1924 in Pasadena, California. It was the first time "The Original Hamburger with Cheese" appeared on a menu. The legend takes us to Colorado Boulevard (then Route 66), where The Rite Spot once stood and the cheeseburger was born. It cost a whopping $0.15.

With all of the burger options out there it can be hard to decide where to go.  Reader's Digest recently chose the best burger joint in every state, and here's their pick for Kentucky.

I can imagine a competition where you try to find the best burger in the state is a hard competition because all burgers are good burgers in their way. But one must be crowned the best, and according to Reader's Digest,  a restaurant called Mussel & Burger Bar serves up the best in the Bluegrass State.

Mussel & Burger Bar is unique because it specializes in two very different types of food, burgers and mussels.  While you won't see a "mussel burger" on the menu, the burger options are out of this world and sound delicious.

Located in Louisville is Mussel & Burger Bar, featuring 15 different burgers made with 100-percent-certified Black Angus beef, ground in-house daily. Try the decadent Southern Bell topped with pimento cheese, rémoulade sauce, and fried green tomatoes—it won’t disappoint. Breakfast lovers will gravitate toward the BBB, stacked high with a fried egg, maple-glazed pork belly, caramelized onions, aged white cheddar, and maple syrup aioli, all on a house-made bun.
