One Haunted Kentucky Location Makes List of Most Terrifying Places in America
Kentucky has many haunted hot spots, but one has been named among the most terrifying in the country.
Haunted Kentucky
There are few things I enjoy more than a good old-fashioned ghost story. If you tell me a place is haunted, I want to know everything. Who is haunting this place? Why is it haunted? What happened here? Spill. The. Ghostly. Tea. And all across the Bluegrass State, there are notoriously haunted locations, from haunted distilleries to the world's most haunted night club. However, one haunted hot spot in Kentucky has been named among the 25 most terrifying places in the country.
The Most Terrifying Places in America
Recently MSN created a list of the 25 Most Terrifying Places in America. According to MSN the most terrifying places in the country range from old homes, to prisons, hotels, and even some graveyards.
Throughout the United States, numerous graveyards, old homes, prisons, and hotels have collected their share of ghost stories, often passed down for generations. Some places even play up their lore, offering ghost tours or Halloween attractions. America's scariest spots include places where horrific crimes took place, a cave where it's said a malevolent witch lurks, and a graveyard where some say a buried skull can still be heard screaming underground.
When looking through this list I saw a familiar place, Kentucky's own Waverly Hills Sanatorium.
Waverly Hills Sanatorium
Located in Louisville, Kentucky sits a once-abandoned old sanatorium. Waverly Hills Sanatorium has quite a reputation for being infamously haunted. The numbers vary, but it's said that thousands died at Waverly Hills Sanatorium as it was originally a tuberculosis hospital. After the tuberculosis epidemic was over, it was turned into a geriatric medical facility. In 1981 Waverly Hills closed its doors. Now the Waverly Hills Historical Society works hard to help preserve the historic landmark, and by utilizing its chilling history they're able to raise funds for their nonprofit which helps with the preservation of the building.
Whether you're a fan of the paranormal or more skeptical, there's no denying that Waverly Hills is an eerie place. Here is why MSN ranked Waverly Hills among the Most Terrifying Places in America:
