Jake Owen is back on the awards show radar thanks to songs from his latest record, Greetings From ... Jake. Owen is nominated for Single of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards, for "Down to the Honkytonk."

In the category, Owen is going up against Florida Georgia Line and Bebe Rexha, Kane Brown, Luke Bryan and Dan + Shay. It's his first nomination in 10 years, after winning New Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2009 ACM Awards.

"It’s really fulfilling because it’s the Academy of Country Music Awards. I’m nominated for Single of the Year, which is really what all of us as artists work hard for," Owen told The Boot in an interview. "To think that it’s been 10 years since I’ve been nominated at an award show ... It’s really fulfilling is the best way to put it. Not just for myself, but for everybody that believes in me and has believed in me."

Owen feels his ACM Single of the Year nomination is validation for both himself and his whole team. In the midst of a career renaissance, the country singer knows the nomination is about more than just a trophy: It's a recognition of what he and his new label, Big Loud Records, have been working on.

"A lot of it is validation for me because it is an industry-driven award show. To think that, after all these years, that those here in the industry that have the ability to vote for whoever they would like to, and for lots of great songs and artists and projects, to be narrowed down to the four or five that are nominated is very special," Owen says. "Hard work feels good when you know that it’s paying off, and we’ve all worked very hard."

Whether or not he wins the category, Owen is excited to add this ACM Awards nomination to his list of accomplishments in 2019. Thus far, the year includes a new album, a new baby on the way, a film appearance and more.

"Everyone’s fired up. It’ll be something fun to share, win or lose," Owen says. "It’ll be something fun to hang our hats on for this year, 2019. It’s already starting off great."

The 2019 ACM Awards will take place on Sunday, April 7 in Las Vegas, Nev. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The show will air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET.
