Every year Reader's Digest makes a list of the most charming "gems" in each state.  Not necessarily hidden gems, but towns that one may not first think of when planning a trip. Of course, big cities like Louisville or Lexington offer great entertainment, exciting nightlife, and delicious dining options, but there are so many great places in Kentucky that have a lot going for them.

I know I'm a little biased, but I am surprised we don't see Owensboro make lists like these. With how much we have grown over the years and the huge success of events like ROMP I feel like it is only a matter of time.

It was recently announced that Kentucky's 2024 "Most Charming Small Town" is our neighbor just two hours west.  Here's what Reader's Digest had to say about Paducah, KY, and why they have made the cut this year.

Located in southwestern Kentucky, Paducah’s waterfront downtown, with tree-lined brick streets and 19th-century architecture, is bustling with art galleries, antique stores, performance spaces and locally owned cafes. Home to the National Quilt Museum, featuring a 320-piece collection of contemporary quilts and exhibits celebrating traditional quilt-making methods, Paducah is a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts & Folk Art.

I have to admit, I didn't know Paducah was so culturally rich.  Something I find especially endearing is that they celebrate the heritage of quilting and inspire future generations to continue this art form.  I know quilting is not specific to the Bluegrass State, but it certainly is something that inspires nostalgic feelings in every Kentuckian.

Another factor that sealed the deal for Paducah as the Most Charming Kentucky Town is a scenic riverboat cruise that is offered along the historic downtown riverfront. The Belle Louise Historic Guest House is also a must-stay. Here is a feature KET did on this quaint small city. Owensboro gets a shout-out for our Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

The Paducah Visitor's Bureau says "You can create a getaway to remember with just 48 Hours in Paducah or make Paducah home base for a regional road trip." No matter how you may want to explore the area, you can explore things to do with their handy dandy guide here.
