The Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari Pepsi Oasis ‘Wind Tunnel’ Explained

I hope you've had a chance to visit Holiday World & Splashin' Safari this season. One of the happiest places on Earth is also celebrating a milestone this year. 25 years of free soft drinks in the park! This perk has SAVED me multiple times on hot, humid Southern Indiana summer days.

Where are the Pepsi Oasis Locations at Holiday World?

Sorry Phil! The only place to find a Pepsi Oasis is Holiday World! Appropriately named, you can find them all over the park.  That way, you can wet your whistle no matter where you are. Here is a link to all of the Oases (yes, I had to Google the plural form of the word "Oasis") if you ever need to know their locations.

If you are already familiar with them, you also have experience with the "wind tunnel" effect that happens when you walk in. My family visited at the beginning of summer, and it was a rainy day. We had ponchos on, which made for some laughs. We felt like Missy Elliot in that one music video.

Why Are There Such Strong Fans at Holiday World Pepsi Oasis?

As you enter the stand-alone Oasis stops, there are very powerful fans that I always assumed were to cool you down as you get your beverage. Or so you can pretend to be Beyonce while you choose from the variety of soda, tea, lemonade, Gatorade, water, etc. I recently learned that they actually serve a more important purpose.

Shoo Flies!

My friend Shane posted a theory from an amusement park enthusiast the other day that I have since confirmed with my friend Sabrina from Holiday World (it pays to know cool people!)  The Pepsi Oasis fans are to keep bugs out! Bees, flies, mosquitoes, etc., aren't strong enough to fly through the fast-moving air. Otherwise, they would swarm the drink machines.

Air Curtains Keep Bugs Away

Hey, flies get thirsty too, but they gotta keep their fuzzy paws off our fizzy refreshments! Apparently, the fans are called "air curtains," and I am grateful for them. Not only do they keep the Oases bug-free, they also cool us down, and give us something to laugh about when we are wearing ponchos.
