There are few things I love more than seeing good things happen for animals in our community, and this is a pretty tremendous win for the homeless pets of Posey County.

After years in the making, NewLife Rescue & Adoptions is preparing to officially open the doors to its brand-new facility in Mount Vernon, Indiana.

And they're inviting the community to come celebrate.

NewLife Rescue & Adoptions Celebrates Its Grand Opening

NewLife Rescue & Adoptions will hold a ribbon-cutting for its new building at noon on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The celebration is part of a two-day Grand Opening Adoption Fair happening August 29 and 30 from noon to 5 p.m. at the new facility at 6500 Leonard Road N. in Mount Vernon.

Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the new building, meet some of NewLife's adoptable animals, and grab lunch from food trucks.

For an organization dedicated to finding new beginnings for animals in need, having a new facility of its own represents a pretty significant new beginning, too.

Adoption Fees Sponsored During Grand Opening Weekend

The celebration could also be the perfect opportunity for some of NewLife's current residents to find homes of their own.

Thanks to the ASPCA, all dog adoptions during the event will be sponsored with an approved adoption application.

That means families who have been considering adding a dog to the household can meet available animals during the grand opening and potentially take home a new best friend without the usual adoption fee.

Of course, bringing home a pet is a long-term commitment, so the free adoption fee shouldn't be the reason to adopt, but it certainly makes a wonderful bonus for families who are already ready to welcome a dog into their lives.

A New Chapter for Posey County's Homeless Animals

Animal rescue requires far more than simply finding pets new homes. Rescues need space to safely house animals while providing the care, attention, and time they need before adoption.

That's what makes the opening of NewLife's new facility such an exciting milestone.

The grand opening allows the community not only to see the new space, but to celebrate the years of work that went into creating it, and maybe help a few animals begin their own new chapters along the way.

NewLife Rescue & Adoption's Grand Opening Adoption Fair takes place Saturday and Sunday, August 29-30, from noon to 5 p.m., with the official ribbon cutting at noon Saturday.
