Uh-Oh! Farmers’ Almanac Predicts A Soggy Indy 500 and Memorial Day
The Farmers' Almanac makes all kinds of weather predictions, and according to this prediction, it may actually rain on our parade.
Popular Weather Lore
The Farmers' Almanac has been predicting the weather for decades. Before we had radars and smartphones, people would try to predict the weather utilizing all kinds of weather lore. like looking inside persimmon seeds, or analyzing the color of a wooly worm. Farmers' Almanac says their first edition came out in 1818 and ever since then weather lore has been a very popular topic that people love to speculate about.
How Does The Farmers' Almanac Predict Weather?
Farmers' Almanac says they have a mathematical formula that they've been using for more than 200 years to predict the weather. Many claim that Farmers' Almanac predicts the weather with about 85% accuracy, which isn't too shabby! I tried to find the formula, and it is very secret. I bet it's in a vault somewhere with the recipe to KFC's original recipe. I'm sure the decades of tracking weather trends have helped them to improve accuracy as well.
What will Spring Look Like in the Tri-State?
When looking at the springtime forecast from the Farmers' Almanac for our region it says "cool and showery" so that's fun. Sounds like we will be getting some rain and lower temperatures. Maybe we will actually get to experience a spring season this year! Most years I feel like we go from cold right into hot and humid.
Predicting a Soggy Memorial Day Weekend and Indy 500
Spring officially begins on March 20th, but it seems like the arrival of March 20th doesn't necessarily mean it will instantly be warm. As Farmers' Almanac predicts a "thunder and zing spring."

Get ready for a “Thunder and Zing Spring!” Farmers’ Almanac long range weather forecast says spring weather will take its time arriving, allowing winter conditions to linger, especially across the Midwest, Great Lakes, New England, and Northeast regions.
The Indy 500 has been a Memorial Day weekend tradition in Indiana since the 1970s.
While the race began in 1911, the Indy 500 didn't become synonymous with Memorial Day Weekend until the 1970s. This year if you're planning on enjoying the Indy 500 or any of the fun events surrounding the race, you may want to make sure you have a poncho and rainboots with you.
According to Farmers' Almanac, a rainy weekend is forecasted saying "the Indianapolis-500 could be marred by wet weather on May 25." Of course, don't let this forecast change your plans for Memorial Day Weekend, wait until closer to the weekend to see what your local forecast is saying before committing to anything or selling those Indy 500 tickets just yet!
