There's a cool interactive map that will have you starting a new holiday tradition this year.

My Holiday Tradition: Bundle Up, Grab the Cocoa & Look at Lights

We have a tradition in our house that started a few years ago. Every December, a few days before Christmas, we bundle up, grab some hot cocoa, and head out to see the various light displays around town.

Ritzy's Fantasy of Lights is a Must See

Of course, for our first stop, we visit the annual Ritzy's Fantasy of Lights at Evansville's Garvin Park. It's a Tristate staple, and all of the proceeds benefit Easterseals, a wonderful organization that provides much needed services for our community.

Have to Visit the the 4H Lightshow Too

After we leave Garvin Park, there are still plenty of lights to see. We usually head out to the Vanderburgh 4H Fairgrounds to drive through that display too. Once we're through, we try to visit some local homes lit for the season. In fact, there are over 200 independent Christmas light displays at homes in and around Evansville!

More Than 200 Independent Christmas Light Displays at Homes Around Evansville

How do I know there are more than 200 light displays in the area? The folks at Evansville Christmas Lights on Facebook, have been working with the community since 2016 to compile a list of local displays hosted by our friends and neighbors.

There's an Interactive Map to Guide You Around Evansville's Christmas Light Displays

Evansville Christmas Lights has even turned that list into an interactive map so you can see exactly where each of the light displays are located. The list has grown so much in the last several years, that it even includes displays as far away as Jasper, Indiana and Owensboro, Kentucky.

The Christmas Lights Map is Coded to Make It Easy to Find What You're Looking For

Not only does the map pinpoint all of these light displays, but it also lets you know what to expect from each of them. See an ornament pinned to the map? Those houses have 1,000 lights or less in their display. Gingerbread pins on the map have 1,000 or more lights. The candy cane pins on the map show where the houses are decorated with lights synced to music, and the big drive thru displays, like Fantasy of Lights, are marked with a festive circle. There are also holly leaves on the map which show you where to find the lighted photo opportunities in downtown Evansville.
