Cemetery VS Graveyard

When it comes to the words "cemetery" and "graveyard"  I always thought the two were the same thing. It turns out they are actually a little different. According to Mountain View Funeral Home, Graveyards are typically operated by a church, so many times they are on a church property.  Whereas cemeteries are typically more open to the public.   But of course, with everything, there are always exceptions.

Hidden in Plain Sight

Now that we know about the difference between cemeteries and graveyards, let's get into one of the more unique cemeteries I've ever heard of, The Burks Family Cemetery.   What makes this cemetery so unique is its location, it's located in the middle of a busy shopping center.

The Burks Family Cemetery

In Louisville, Kentucky there is the bustling Springs Station shopping center.  Looking around you'll see Books a Million, a McDonalds, a Hobby Lobby, and several other stores but then you turn around and you'll see a bunch of bushes.

Beyond those bushes are the graves of the Burks Family.  It turns out that back in the 1800's the area where the shopping center now sits used to be a farm. WHAS11 said the graves are the final resting places of the family who owned the farm, James and Matilda Burks along with their children.

If you decide to take the drive to Louisville to get a glimpse of the Burks family cemetery, please be respectful.  Take a look, and snap a couple of photos, but please remember these are the burial sights of real people, and someone's loved ones.  I'm sure they still have family around to this day, so be respectful.

If you want to see some up-close views of the gravestones, you can check out a video from Bluegrass Paranormal below.
