Indy Eleven Soccer Reveals Plans for New Stadium in Downtown Indianapolis [PHOTOS]

For most of its decade of existence, the Indy Eleven professional soccer team has called Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis home (with the exception of three seasons where they played their home games at Lucas Oil Stadium). A stadium it's shared with the IUPUI Jaguars since day one. That will change in 2025 with the announcement on Friday the team will break ground on a stadium it can call its own later this spring.

Indy Eleven to Break Ground on New Soccer Stadium in May

According to the announcement posted on the team's website, the property was formerly occupied by Diamond Chain Company who recently shut down the facility currently taking the space and will be off the property "by the end of April." The lot sits roughly three blocks west of Lucas Oil Stadium along the White River.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for sometime in May, and by the looks of the design renderings by the Keystone Group, the 20,000-seat stadium will be a beautiful addition to downtown Indy.

More Than Just Another Stadium

While the stadium will be the main draw and focal point for residents and visitors, plans for the property also include a "transformational neighborhood development" that will feature apartments, space for offices, retail stores, and restaurants, along with a hotel,  public plazas with green space, and public parking garages.

In a statement announcing the groundbreaking, Ersal Ozdemir, Chairman and Founder of Keystone Group and Indy Eleven said the new stadium and surrounding park "will not only change the skyline of Indianapolis, but will add over a thousand jobs, have a huge economic impact, create quality of life benefits and attract talent and opportunities to our city and state.”

Like Lucas Oil Stadium, once completed, the new stadium will be a multipurpose venue capable of hosting more than just soccer events. Since opening in August 2008 to replace the Hoosier/RCA Dome as the home of the Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil has hosted concerts, motocross events, NCAA basketball games, monster truck events, and more. The addition of the Indy Eleven stadium, once complete, should provide an opportunity for the city to attract similar events.

Construction on the new stadium is set to begin in May and barring any major setbacks, is expected to open by the Summer of 2025.
