Indiana Military Museum to Host Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day
The Indiana Miliatry Museum will host their first summer Vietnam Remembrance event this weekend, featuring displays, reenactments, memorabilia, and more.
I've been to several events at the Indiana Military Museum over the years, and they never disappoint. The museum itself is located in Vincennes and features a massive collection of artifacts dating all the way back to the American Revolutionary War. The number of vehicles and displays the museum has is truly astounding, so if you're a history buff and have never paid a visit, I highly recommend you check it out. In fact, there is no better time than the present.
New Event
On Saturday, July 20, 2024, and Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Indiana Military Museum will host their first summer Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Day. The event has traditionally been held in the fall but has now expanded to an additional weekend in the summer. Like the fall event, this new summer weekend will also honor the veterans and casualties of the war. The museum will play host to living history displays, reenactments, and memorabilia. Parking and outside events are free and open to everyone. The museum will be open with regular admission pricing.
I've attended the fall event before and had a great time chatting with the reenactors and Vietnam War veterans in attendance. It's a great place to not only learn about American history but also tip your cap to those who served during the conflict. My grandfather is one such veteran and even attended a few years ago in his original 1960s flak jacket. He looked like a true superhero to me that day. A friend of mine even tagged along that year and snagged a couple photos of the reenactment, which you can see above and below.
Schedule
Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) on Saturday and Sunday, with the event taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (ET) both days. The battle reenactment will be held at 1 p.m. (ET) each day, along with an assortment of other activities. If you have a question about the time period or even the war itself, many of the reenactors are extremely knowledgeable and very happy to chat about such topics.
Guests in attendance will also be able to view the museum's new "Vietnam Firebase Camp," along with several vehicles, planes, and tanks. Additionally, several military and food vendors will be on site. You can stay up-to-date on the latest announcements from the Indiana Miliatry Museum here.
