Elementary Students Given “Tickets” for Saying “6 7″ From Indiana Sheriffs
A sheriff's department in Indiana has gone viral for shutting down the usage of the phrase “6 7.”
Over the past few months, parents have been losing their minds over the usage of a term that the kids are saying adnausium. If you're a parent, you have most likely heard of the term "6 7." You might not know what it means, but you've definitely heard it. Well, one Indiana Sheriff's Office is cracking down on the term in a hilarious way.
Indiana Sheriff's Office Issues "Tickets" to Students for Saying "6 7"
Last week, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office went viral for a video they posted on social media. In the video, you see "brave" school resource officers entering an elementary school in the area to end the use of the phrase "6 7." This humorous video shows the officers issuing fake tickets to students who were caught using the phrase. The post ends by saying: "We appreciate the support as our SROs work tirelessly to keep parents sane during this time."

Obviously, the students aren't really being ticketed, as there's no such "6 7" ordinance in reality. However, the video was just a fun little take on the 2025 Word of the Year, from Dictionary.com. The video ends with the following disclaimer regarding the phrase "6 7" and its usage:
Students, be warned: the TCSO has a zero-tolerance policy for the use of the phrase “6-7.” Unfortunately, just like the phrase, the law and the tickets have no weight.

What Does 6 7 Even Mean?
From what I gather from my kids is that 6 7 doesn't really mean anything. Dictionary.com reveals the origin of the term:
The origin of this most modern use of 67 is thought to be a song called “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla. (This is an opportune moment to mention that you may also see it written as 6 7, 6-7, or six-seven, but the most important thing is to never pronounce it as “sixty-seven.”) It was quickly reinforced by viral TikToks featuring basketball players and a young boy who will forevermore be known as the “67 Kid.” Within weeks, teachers were trading tips online about how to get their students to stop saying 67 all day long.
However, in terms of how the kids use 6 7, it really has no concrete meaning. It makes absolutely no sense why the kids use it in any context. I believe it's just a way for the kids to annoy their parents. Let's just hope that 67 is one of those trends that fades away quickly, or they can at least get a clear-cut meaning for it so that we old folks can start using it to make the kids think it's not cool to say anymore.
