Families Under $150K Now Get Free Tuition at Notre Dame
One of the most prestigious universities in the country is easing the financial burden for students. Here's what you need to know about Notre Dame University's big announcement.
College is expensive. Between tuition, housing, books, supplies, and food, all of that money adds up. Unless you have a full-ride scholarship, there's a good chance that you will be paying your student loans for quite a long time. That's why I try to instill good grades in school in my kids. My oldest is seventeen, a junior in high school, and she's trying to figure out where she wants to go to college in a little over a year. One of the schools she has considered is Notre Dame University in South Bend. A prestigious college that is far from inexpensive. Well, it appears that Notre Dame has decided to do something for qualifying families that will eliminate the burden of paying for tuition.
Free Tuition at Notre Dame University?
The University of Notre Dame announced significant enhancements to its undergraduate financial aid program, with an expansion of the Pathways to Notre Dame initiative. This announcement aimsto ensure a Notre Dame education is affordable and accessible to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. According to a press release from Notre Dame University, this will make a Notre Dame education a lot more affordable for thousands of families, and by "a lot more affordable," I mean FREE.

The press release from Notre Dame says:
Beginning in the 2026-27 academic year, Notre Dame will ensure that families with annual income below $150,000 will receive need-based financial aid that covers the cost of tuition. Families with income below $200,000 will receive need-based aid that covers half the cost of tuition. In addition, most students from families with annual income below $60,000 will receive need-based financial aid that covers tuition, fees, housing and food.
This is a massive announcement, as the cost of tuition alone is the main reason why some folks might not be able to attend the university. I mean, we are talking about nearly $100 thousand a year! This is the breakdown of the average cost of attendance for the 2026-2027 academic year at Notre Dame, according to the school's website:
- Tuition and Fees: $69,794
- Housing and Food: $18,992
- Books and Supplies: $1,250
- Personal Expenses: $1,200
- Transportation: $750
- Total Estimated Cost: $91,986
This is incredible news. I'm sure there are many who make the grades to get into this prestigious school, but financially, there's no way they could attend. That's all about to change. I know that as soon as my daughter sees this, she will have even more motivation to pursue Notre Dame University as a possible school to further her education
