Remembering The Classic Show Hoosier Millionaire

I vividly remember being a young child at home on Saturday night, flipping through the channels as I was up past my bedtime. There it was, Hoosier Millionaire, the tv game show from the Hoosier Lottery that turned Hoosiers into Millionaires. Launched in October of 1989 as a complement to the newly established Hoosier Lottery, the show was a staple on Saturday nights for anyone who loved to gamble and curious kids like me. Hosted by Mark Patrick, Barbara Hobbs, and Tony Lamont, six contestants would start the show, competing for cash prizes. The top cash prize winners would advance to the Millionaire Board, where they would compete for the top prize of a million dollars. In its' 16 year run, the show crowned 191 Hoosiers as millionaires. The show originally aired in 1989 after voter approval in 1988 allowed for the Hoosier Lottery to open, and went off the air in 2005. Fun fact: when the Hoosier Lottery first started selling scratch-offs, they sold 8.19 million scratch-offs in the first 24 hours.

Watch Re-Runs Of Hoosier Millionaire On YouTube

Much to my surprise, the Hoosier Lottery has archived this amazing show on their YouTube channel. You can watch episodes from the 1990-1991 seasons of Hoosier Millionaire. In 2014, a brief attempt was made to revive the show in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the first scratch-off being sold, but it was unsuccessful. The 2014 reboot was originally branded as a road show, traveling to different cities to crown a winner, with a grand finale at the Indiana State Fair. Unfortunately, the show doesn't appear to be making another revival anytime soon. For the committed scratcher-offer like myself, we'll just have to enjoy the nostalgia of watching these reruns.
