Some of the best-hidden gems are small-town diners. Whether you go there for the coffee, a yummy slice of pie, the huge menu, or the overall dining experience, these restaurants are oftentimes overlooked nowadays. That being said, we have quite a few local diners scattered all across the country that folks should really make a point to visit, rather than choosing the familiar national chains. Shows like Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives have done a really great job of highlighting unique local restaurants all over the country.

When it comes to diners in America, travelers can find nostalgia, charm, and, of course, delicious food. That's why USA Today is looking to crown the Best Diner in America in its latest Reader's Choice Award. As it turns out, there is one hole-in-the-wall diner in Kentucky that has been nominated.

Hole-in-the-Wall Kentucky Diner Nominated for the Best Diner in America

USA Today says that the 20 diners nominated by their panel of travel experts promise to make any road trip unforgettable. One of those diners is found in Frankfort, Kentucky. Shelby's Roadside Diner is a small hole-in-the-wall diner that serves simple home-cooked food that reminds you of home.

Shelby's Diner has mastered the art of classic Southern cuisine, providing visitors with a diverse array of favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For early visitors, the Mike's French toast breakfast sandwich comes loaded with maple syrup and powdered sugar, while lunchtime diners can look forward to fried bologna sandwiches, PB&J burgers, or chili and cornbread.
