School's Almost Out!

Today, I came home to a note taped on my front door. It read, "I had the best day, EVER!" The handwriting gave away the author - my eight-year-old daughter wanted me to know that she was in a spectacular mood. When I came in, I asked her why she was so excited. She told me that today the class had to do work in the morning but had the whole afternoon to watch movies and play on the playground. There you go, trips to Disney - no. Horseback riding in the mountains - no. Countless other magical experiences I've rustled up for my kid - no. Not the best day ever. A movie and extra playground time was all it took. Who knew?

It's almost the end of school and kids everywhere are ready to clean out their desks and their lockers and be done. Full disclosure, as a parent, I'm ready for schedules and book reports and spelling words and masks and water bottles all to be done as well!

Recycle Your School Supplies

If you and your kids find that they have a lot of half-worn crayons, and pencils with no lead, and notebooks with only a few pages in them, instead of throwing that stuff in the trash, you can recycle it and help Warrick County teachers and schools out. Just take your supplies to Chandler Elementary or John H Castle and place them in one of the recycle bins throughout the lobbies during the month of May.

According to the website, the recycling program collected 300 pounds of school supplies in 2019 and awarded grants to the following teachers in 2020:

Ms. Ashley Morgan (Loge Elementary School) [For non-fiction books]
Ms. Jessie Borden (Tennyson Elementary School) [For hands on resources: Play dough, math manipulatives, colored card stock and laminator pouches]
Ms. Alyssa Williams (Boonville High School) [For math Manipulatives, Calculators, Pencils, Paper]
