F1 In Indiana? 2026 Changes And The New Team Calling Indiana Home
F1 Making Major Changes In 2026
After binge-watching Drive To Survive on Netflix a few years back, my husband and I became obsessed with the sport. Stemming from pre-war (WWII) grand prix racing, F1 started in 1950, and unlike other auto racing sports, this one is the fastest and starts anew every year. There are 10 teams in the sport (there will be 11 teams starting in 2026) with two drivers each, and all teams build two cars from scratch each year. The challenge? Building a car that meets the ever-changing rules of the sport, which are generally adjusted for safety and speed each year. Oh yeah...they also have to go faster than the other cars. Every so often, the group of regulations changes is far more massive than in years past, which is exactly what's happening for 2026. F1 is one of the only internationally operated sports, viewed worldwide as the premier place to go for auto racing. During the season, teams travel the world, week to week, packing and unpacking billions of dollars in racing equipment and drivers, all to test the limits on the world's oldest racing courses. With winners being separated by milliseconds, the construction of the car is the greatest feat each team faces at the beginning of each season. If you're an F1 nerd like me and are still struggling to understand the new rules, check out this video:
Indiana Is Now Home To The Cadillac F1 Team
America's history in F1 is not as glamorous as that of other countries. We had Penske & Shadow in the 70s, Haas showed up in the mid-80s, and there was a failed US F1 project in 2010. However, Cadillac will be joining the grid in 2026 as the premier American F1 team. Additionally, this will bring countless jobs to the area and help boost the local economy. Backed by General Motors and Andretti Global, the Cadillac F1 team is building its new headquarters facility in Fishers, Indiana. Still awaiting the final commercial agreement from F1 management and existing teams, there is no overstating how incredibly impactful this can be for Indiana. The Fisher's facility will be primarily used for manufacturing and technical work, while a power unit facility will be operated in Concord, North Carolina, and European operations will be led from offices in Silverstone, United Kingdom. Cadillac has also signed two veteran, win-proven drivers, in former Mercedes driver, Valtteri Bottas, and former Red Bull driver, Sergio Perez. Here's an inside look at the Fisher's facility and how the Cadillac team will work:
American teams have commonly not been welcomed into the world of F1. In a billionaire's sport commonly reserved for European teams, Cadillac stepped up to the fight, and surprisingly, they're winning. Take a deeper dive into how this American team fought its way into the sport:
