The Evansville YWCA is currently in need of items for women and children currently living in their shelter.

The YWCA

The YWCA in Evansville has been a staple in our community for over 100 years.  They work hard to make sure that women and children are empowered and have a safe place to go if needed.

YWCA Evansville is one of 200 local associations across the United States. Each local YWCA offers programming to meet the needs within their own communities. YWCA USA supports local associations by offering training, networking opportunities, special initiatives (such as Stand Against Racism and Week Without Violence), advocacy, and lobbying for policies that affect racial equality and women’s issues.

Domestic Violence & Emergency Housing

The YWCA is also home to a domestic violence and emergency housing shelter.  The YWCA's services are available 24/7 365 days a year.

In 1979, YWCA Evansville opened the area’s first domestic violence shelter. Over the past 42 years, we have provided services on a 24-hour/365-days basis. Many of our survivors find themselves homeless, unemployed, facing extreme poverty, and without a support system. Therefore, our family advocates offer counseling, case management, legal advocacy and education in addition to basic necessities like food, clothing and personal care items to support survivors as they work to rebuild their lives. Our child advocate provides play therapy, tutoring, school advocacy, assessments and referrals. If there is room in the shelter, we also provide emergency housing and services to women who are homeless due to reasons other than domestic violence and we operate a 24-hour crisis hotline.
