Warbird Weekend is the Evansville Wartime Museum's (EWM) biggest event of the year, featuring World War II veterans, reenactors, and aircraft available for tours and rides. Originally set for Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29, the event was supposed to showcase an authentic WWII-era Grumman TBM Avenger as well as a B-25 Mitchell Bomber. However, due to rainfall from Hurricane Helene, the planes were unable to fly in, resulting in a slightly different event.
Warbird Weekend Gets Rained Out
While the planes were unable to fly to the museum to offer tours and rides, many reenactors and even a few World War II veterans made the best of the circumstances. Pictured above are John Green, Jim Hitch, and Tony Neumann, whom the museum called "an inspiration in resilience to us all." At the time, the museum was unsure if bringing the planes back for a rescheduled event was possible, and thus shared the following on social media:
This is obviously not what we were hoping for and we are sorry to all whose plans were uprooted. If you purchased a flight ticket, you will be refunded through the CAF MO who sold the tickets. At this time, we do not know if rescheduling this event is possible. There is a lot up in the air.
Warbird Weekend Rescheduled Dates
On Friday, October 4, in the height of uncertainty, the museum announced some exciting news. Warbird Weekend has been officially rescheduled for Saturday, October 19, and Sunday, October 20. The event will run as intended, with the EWM grill up and running both days. Additionally, there will be kids' learning stations set up for the event, and WWII reenactors will be camped inside the hangar. Aircraft rides can be purchased HERE while space is available.
The museum will be open that Saturday and Sunday, with gates open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time on both days. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for veterans, seniors, or museum members. The cost for kids ages 6–17 is $10, and children five and under get in free. Additionally, a family of four may enter the event for $50. You can learn more about the event by clicking HERE.
