I tend to be pretty leery of most things I see on Facebook claiming to be factual, and with today being April Fools Day, my "B.S. Detector" was on high alert. So when I saw the Evansville Police Department claim to enter into a partnership with local satire news page, The Tri-State Beet on their Facebook page, I was instantly skeptical.

For the uninitiated, The Tri-State Beet is an Evansville-based Facebook page that creates and posts satirical news stories. Here's a few recent examples of their work:

As you can see, the stories usually have some type of relation to the Police Department, whether it be a fake crime, or a claim that Mike Tyson will be taking on two police officers at Guns and Hoses next Saturday.

Whoever runs the Police Department Facebook page, decided to have a little fun of their own and turn the tables on The Tri-State Beet with this post Friday morning.

My favorite parts of this post include "Their reporters are really super duper good! They have a knack at getting statements from officers who don't seem to have names and they continually get statements from top secret witnesses who manage to avoid anyone learning their true identity," and "The Tri-State Beet has stories about huge arrests that have happened in Evansville that even WE don’t know about! Folks, how can anyone compete with that level of all-star journalism?"

See, these are the types of April Fools pranks I can get behind. No one gets hurt, it doesn't incite fear, or paranoia, it's just some playful jabs that everyone can enjoy a chuckle over.

Well played, EPD, well played.
