The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville is turning 65 years old on December 7th (they don't look a day of 25, am I right?), and to celebrate they're asking for your help so they can continue providing services for kids that will allow them to "reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

Boys & Girls Club of Evansville 65th Anniversary Fundraiser

The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville has grown tremendously since opening its doors to the young people of Evansville back in 1957. Since that time, the Club has moved from its original location near Berry Plastics to its current location at the Springleaf Financial Services Main Unit on Bellemeade Avenue. The current location has provided the club with plenty of room for expansion and features an indoor basketball gym, fitness center, kitchen, and more. Most recently, through the support of public and private donations, the Club was able to add a full-sized, fenced-in baseball field on its lot which features all synthetic turf.

But, the main goal of the Club is to provide young people in the city with the programs, services, and lessons they need in order to become productive members of the community as they grow into adults. According to Shanna Groeniger, Director of Development and Marketing for the Club, those programs include:

  • Club Programs: Experiences that expand perspective are crucial to youth development. For example, the ability to visit a museum, job shadow, or make art with local artists is a part of healthy development.
  • Healthy Snacks/Member Meals: The Club provides healthy snacks and meals at each of our locations. Groeniger says that receiving a nutritious snack makes a huge impact on the members and their families, and allows them to focus on fun and exciting activities at the Club.
  • Membership Scholarships: Scholarships help remove barriers for families that cannot afford to attend and enrich the lives of the youth we serve in profound ways.

Like with any service provided to the community by a non-profit organization, the Boys & Girls Club relies on donations from the public to fund them. To celebrate their 65th anniversary/birthday, they're hoping to raise $6,500 by December 31st to help them keep the services mentioned above and others going.
