Brooks & Dunn bandmate Ronnie Dunn just revealed two new covers from his upcoming solo album, Re-Dunn: A take on Tom T. Hall’s “That’s How I Got to Memphis” that’s inspired by Deryl Dodd’s version, and a countrified reimagining of Ace’s “How Long.”

“That’s How I Got to Memphis” begins with an already classic song -- written by Hall in the '60’s, and popularized by Dodd in 1996 -- and adds the familiar voice and rocking country vibe that’s made Dunn and his longtime bandmate Kix Brooks two of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

“How Long” comes from the catalog of Ace, a British group featuring future Mike & The Mechanics member Paul Carrack. It’s the latest example of Dunn scouring what he calls “the soundtrack of my life” for rock and pop songs to record in his own voice.

"There was a time when everyone rushed to record popular songs," Dunn said in a press release. "It wasn’t uncommon to have many artists record their unique version of a great song; I don’t know what happened to change that. I’m not trying to beat or come close to the original vocals on these songs, just put my take on them. I know there is no match to Paul Carrack’s voice or vocal on 'How Long,' and Deryl Dodd’s version of 'That’s How I Got To Memphis' is always at the top of my playlist."

Dunn will release more pairings of country covers with rock and pop hits between now and the Jan. 10 release of Re-Dunn, which the singer describes as a "passion project." Dunn previously shared versions of George Strait’s “Amarillo By Morning” and The Hollies’ “Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)."
