There's a really cool underground limestone mine in Kentucky that you can take a boat, kayak, or paddleboard tour in, and it will make for the perfect paddle adventure any time of the year.

I love exploring cool places, especially this time of year. Throughout the state of Kentucky, there are so many amazing sights to see, especially in the town of Slade. This eastern Kentucky town appeals to thrill-seekers with its wide array of attractions that include rock climbing, ziplining, hiking, biking, and camping opportunities. However, they have a really cool adventure that you can take part in that's completely underground.

The Gorge Underground

The Gorge Underground is a 100-year-old abandoned limestone mine that is naturally filled by an underground spring that waterfalls into the mine from several locations. Located in Rogers, Kentucky, guests can take a 1-hour guided kayak, stand-up paddle board, or cave boat tour throughout this amazing mine. They will provide you with all of the equipment that you will need for the tour and sanitize everything in between trips.

The hour-long tour takes you into an underground mine where your guide will show you the landscape and history of the cave. You'll spend the tour exploring the mine, with headlamps so that you can see where you're going...it can get a little dark in there. Plus, the guide will use spotlights to show off the features of the cave.  You will want to have a jacket or sweatshirt because it is only about 52 degrees in the mine. Don't want to be freezing the whole time.

Underground Paddle Adventures at The Gorge Underground

This honestly looks like a really cool place to visit. While you are there, you have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to how you want to explore the mine. First, you can take a fun little boat tour.

You can also paddle your way through the underground mine with a couple of kayaking and paddle boarding options, which you can see below.

There are not too many places see you can see rainbow trout swimming in a cave or an underground waterfall illuminated by your headlamp...and if you're in a clear kayak, you'll see them and other fish swimming underneath you as you paddle along!

Again, this place looks awesome! It's certainly somewhere that I'd like to visit with my family. If you feel the same way, visit their website to learn more by clicking here. You can also take a look below at what you can expect when you visit The Gorge Underground:
