Battle Of The Bangers

There's a plethora of music being released every single day. As a radio station, we can't play them all. I've put together a collection of some of my favorite tunes that either haven't made it, haven't been discovered, or haven't been heard. There may be artists you know, superstars you love, or names you've never heard of. I'll provide some backstory on the artist and my personal favorite lyrics from the song. You decide which one is the banger of the bunch to move on to next week's battle.

Kacey Musgraves - Mexico Honey

A true Texas woman, Kacey Musgraves developed her fame the old-fashioned way, working the Texas circuit. She also finished seventh on Nashville Star, which didn't hurt her rise to outlaw glory, but she hasn't necessarily spoken highly of the experience. Musgraves actually started in the early 2000's as part of a group known as the Texas Two Bits, where her star-studded yodeling took center stage. After Nashville Star, she signed with Mercury Nashville and released her first studio album,  Same Trailer Different Park, in 2013. The album won the Grammy for Best Country Album. She's been winning traditional country fans over ever since. True to her Texas roots, her songs feature everything from her soft, sultry voice to a mariachi band. Her recently released album,  Middle Of Nowhere, may be some of her best work yet. The single "Mexico Honey" is a wonderful song that showcases the unique, yet original Texas sound of Kacey Musgraves. Don't forget to vote for your favorite banger below!

Lori's Favorite Lyrics:

"I'm in a bad girl, good mood, wearing my gold hoops,

lining my lips right now in the rear view, baby, don't even play. When you look at me like that in your cowboy hat,

talking like a real man, makes me wanna take it

back, back, back to your place

Mmmmm."

Matt Schuster - Tell Me Tennessee

This rising country phenom is from a small Illinois town known as Charleston, which is about 120 miles southwest of Indianapolis. Matt Schuster was working on his music, getting a management team in place, and more, all while going to college. Like many of my new finds these days, Schuster was referred to me by Apple Music's "New Music" playlist (a weekly playlist where Apple pretends that it knows my music style and recommends a playlist based on what I've been listening to). Schuster has a rough feel to his music, accompanied by the touch of scruff in his voice. Tell Me Tennessee is the classic "I hope that ex still thinks about me" song, but this one is quite the toe tapper. Check out both songs and vote for your favorite banger below!

Lori's Favorite Lyrics:

"Tell me Tennessee's in the back of your mind
Them days on Percy Priest and the midtown nights
When you think of 23 and the stars in July
Do you picture you and me on a midsummer high?
Every time you're drinkin' Daniels, do you taste that southern heat?
When you're playin' "Hard to Handle, " do you ever think of me?
If I asked you what you're missin', "Where does your heart wanna be?"
Oh, I hope you tell me Tennessee
I hope you tell me Tennessee, oh"
