The Salvation Army is in the final week of its annual Red Kettle campaign, and an anonymous donor here in the Evansville area is willing to match money raised this week.

We all see them around the holiday season. Folks outside of stores braving the cold, ringing a bell and standing next to a Red Kettle collecting cash and change for the Salvation Army. Some folks walk past them, while many offer up the change and cash that they have in their pockets to give back to this wonderful organization. Now, with less than a week to go of this annual campaign, the funds have the chance to be doubled in 2023.

The Salvation Army of Evansville announced earlier today in a press release that an anonymous donor is offering to match up to $20,000 during the final week of the Red Kettle Campaign. Starting today, December 19, and running through December 24 cash donations at Vanderburg and Warrick county kettles will be matched thanks to the anonymous $20,000 gift. According to the press release:

While the donor may be a mystery, the impact of this match is not. If holiday shoppers increase their giving just a little, the goal of raising an additional $20,000 in Red Kettles by Christmas Eve is attainable. Once doubled, the grand total of $40,000 would help to fund vital services to the community in 2023. This includes The Salvation Army's expansive feeding program, which provided more than 188,000 nutritious meals and grocery orders to help fight food insecurity in our community.
