Fun fact for you, Kentucky is responsible for what one website claims is the worst fast-food restaurant in America...and it isn't what you think.

When it comes to fast-food restaurants, there are no shortages whatsoever in the United States, especially in Kentucky. Everyone has their go-to fast-food restaurant. Burgers, tacos, pizza, chicken, and other options at these fast food chains in the state are the perfect meal when you're in a rush. That being said, not all fast-food chains are created equal, right? Some are definitely better than others and there are quite a few that you downright avoid. It's different for everyone. So, when it comes to the worst fast food chain in America, that is pretty subjective.

The Worst Fast-Food Chain in America

However, Yahoo Finance recently set out to determine which fast-food chain is the worst. Here's what the article says:

"We went through multiple Reddit threads and used search terms like 'worst fast-food in the US,' 'worst fast-food chains in America,' and 'America’s worst fast-food restaurants' to find relevant threads."

The restaurant they claimed was the worst in the United States actually originated in Kentucky. Before you yell out "Kentucky Fried Chicken," let me go ahead and tell you that is not the answer. In fact, the answer happens to be Long John Silver's.

Long John Silver's Originated in Kentucky

I was today years old when I found out that Long John Silver's originated in Lexington, Kentucky. The very first Long John Silver's restaurant, which evolved from the Cape Codder seafood restaurant, opened at 301 Southland Drive on August 18th, 1969.

Of course, the restaurant's namesake is a character from the beloved Robert Louis Stevenson book Treasure Island.  According to Long John Silver's:

The first Long John Silver’s opened in 1969 after an enterprising businessman and restaurateur named Jim Patterson experienced a truly exceptional Fish and Chips meal while vacationing on the coast. “The idea of Long John Silver’s was simple,” Patterson said. “Take the unique seafood experience from the coast and make it accessible to all. It’s what drives us to provide every guest who sails with us moments of sea-prise and delight, with ring-the-bell service and real fish sourced responsibly from real places.”

Unfortunately, you won't find a Long John Silver's at 301 Southland Drive in Lexington anymore. That building is now the Fantasia Styling Salon.

Throughout the years, however, Long John Silver's has expanded far beyond this location in Lexington. There are nearly 500 locations throughout the United States and it can also be found in various countries internationally.

Now, when it comes to being named the worst fast-food chain in the United States, I have to strongly disagree with this. Personally, I love Long John Silvers. Their fish is one of the only fish that I will actually eat. Plus, what person in their right mind doesn't enjoy eating those crumbs?! While I don't go to Long John Silver's as much as I'd like to, I have a hard time saying that it's the worst fast food chain. Give me a Fish and Shrimp Platter with fries and mac and cheese (when they have it), and I am a happy camper. Just thinking about it, makes me want to go there now!
