After careful consideration, the Posey County Fair has announced that all all Fair Board events for the July 2020 Posey County Fair has been canceled.

This comes a week after the Warrick County Fair canceled public activities for their upcoming fair. Of course, these cancellations come as a result of COVID-19 uncertainties. The Posey County Fair Board said:

While Indiana’s Back on Track plan would allow for events of this size by our scheduled fair dates, there is no guarantee our county will be in Stage 5 at that time. In addition, requirements from Purdue University to use PPE, social distancing, temperature checks, and tracking of participants and visitors to the grounds, would make it nearly impossible to comply with the policy and still provide a great event for all.

The Fair Board also mentioned in their release that they will be ensuring the grounds will be ready for the Posey County 4-H Council sponsored livestock shows and that they will be assisting in that effort however they can.

While the 2020 Posey County Fair will not go on as originally scheduled, the board directors are working on a way to host weekend events at a later date this year for residents to have some fun at the fairgrounds. Until then, they will be using this time to make improvements on the grounds to "make them more user friendly and safe for all those in the community who visit." These improvements include:

  • New water lines on the west side of the fairgrounds
  • New plumbing in the bathrooms on the hill and exhibit building
  • A new PA system for the main area
  • New fans in the hog barn
  • New flooring and paint on the community center stage
  • Landscaping
  • And more

While this may not be a popular decision among residents, the fair board had to make this decision out of concern for public health and safety. That being said, with all of the improvements being made on the fairgrounds, you can expect the Posey County Fair to come back bigger and better in 2021!
