Creating a Pollinator Plot

If you have a 1/4 acre or larger piece of land in Vanderburgh County and are interested in making a positive impact on your local ecosystem, you can participate in this initiative. The Application Process

Once you get in touch, the Vanderburgh County Soil & Water Conservation District will email you an application. The form is designed to help them understand your plans and ensure the success of your pollinator plot. It's a vital step in the process, so take the time to fill it out accurately.

Site Visit

After receiving your application, the Vanderburgh County Soil & Water Conservation District will schedule a site visit. During this visit, they will assess your land to ensure it's suitable for a pollinator plot. They will also provide recommendations to optimize the habitat for pollinators.

Ordering the Seed

Once your site is approved,  the Vanderburgh County Soil & Water Conservation District will assist you in ordering the appropriate pollinator seed mix. Choosing the right seeds is crucial to attracting a diverse range of pollinators to your plot. They have the knowledge and experience to help you make the right selection.

Preparing and Planting

After you've obtained your seeds, it's time to prepare the plot and plant the seeds. The Vanderburgh County Soil & Water Conservation District will provide guidance on the best practices for soil preparation and planting techniques to maximize the success of your pollinator habitat.

Long-term Commitment

To ensure the health and sustainability of pollinators, you'll be responsible for maintaining the plot for three years. This commitment is essential to allow the habitat to establish itself fully and provide consistent support to pollinators.
