 Thomas Rhett is 21 years old, and he’s been around country music his whole life.  His dad Rhett Akins had a pretty good country career including writing many number one hits for other artists.  Thomas has already written a song for a big star in Jason Aldean, and now he tries his luck with his first single, “Something To Do With My Hands.”

Since the death of Whitney Houston, many online memorials have been have been set up through Facebook.  Even her former Facebook page, seen to the left has been kept open for fans to post their condolences.  Houston is not the only one with a Facebook memorial, as a matter of fact, I’m friends on Facebook with  more than one person who is no longer with us.

I really don’t know what to think about it, but it rally came to mind this morning, when I looked to the right side of my news feed to see a birthday of a former classmate, who has passed away.  Out of curiosity, I went to his page to see what it looked like these days.  It was touching in a way to see so many people wishing him a happy birthday, and telling then they miss him.  While touching, it also hit me as strange.  Facebook seems to be a place where everyone shares the events of their lives.  Interesting that even in death we can share on Facebook.

I wrote the page off as creepy at first, until I saw the simple words from a father, obviously still greiving, “See you soon.”  Maybe Facebook is a new way to be personal while remembering loved ones.  It’s more than flowers on a stone.  The internet is forever after all, so what will you do, DEFRIEND someone who has died?  That doesn’t seem right either.  I guess what I’m asking in all this rambling, is kind of summed up in the poll below.

Sugarland have long been embroiled in a lawsuit surrounding the August 13, 2011 stage collapse at their show at the Indiana State Fair. Now, responding to lawsuits coming at them, they’re claiming one last time that the incident, which left seven dead and more than 40 injured, was not their fault.

Well, the BLAME GAME conmtinues!!! Recently we reported and Taste of Country previously reported, the stage collapsed after Sara Bareilles’ performance and just before Sugarland was about to take the stage. Since then, Indiana State Fair Commission executive director Cindy Hoye claimed that the show’s promoter AND the band wanted to carry on with the show, making them responsible for negligence in the situation.

In response , Sugarland is stating that the fatal accident was just that – “a true accident, or an act of God,” according to CNN. In a court document, the band responded by saying that they “had nothing to do with the construction of the venue” and that the scaffolding collapse was due to a “gust of wind of unprecedented intensity.”

Their claim does seem to be backed by evidence, reported by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration which says that the stage scaffolding was not constructed properly and not properly inspected after it was erected on the site.

With all the finger pointing, Sugarland and their fans are left to wait and see where the lines fall in the end. We will keep you posted!!

My name is Brandon, aka Intern Brandon. I am 6’3″ about 210 lbs. I love sports!

I play mainly lacrosse, football, a little bit of baseball, and I also love to go golfing with my buddies. I went to North High School and I did play football and lacrosse and was part of the first city championship team with north high school lacrosse team. So needless to say I have had a lot of concussions during my time in high school and college. Let’s just say I do have a very bad memory. I received a lacrosse scholarship to play defence at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, IN but after a year did not really like the school so I came back home.  I am majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Radio Broadcasting.  I am a huge family guy. I am currently single. I love meeting new people and love interacting with new people. I love country music and I also listen to basically everything else really but country the most! I love long walks on the beach and moon light walks on cool nights

Buddy told the president, “I heard you singing Al Green [a couple of weeks ago]. You started something you got to keep it up now.”

It seems strange for Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn to not be a duo after so many years as Brooks and Dunn, but now with Ronnie making his own music, it was only a matter of time before we heard a solo project from Kix Brooks.  His first single from his soon to be released solo album is called, “New To This Town,” and it features Eagles great, Joe Walsh.

Today on the show, we discussed the Aeroshot Pure Energy, inhalable caffeine. Yesterday, the Food and Drug Administration announced  that they’ll investigate the product that’s been on the market for a month.

Breathable Foods, the company that makes AeroShot, says that the powder is “a safe, effective product that complies with FDA regulations.”

 It has NOT made it’s way to the Tri-State YET!! For now, it’s being sold in convenience stores in Massachusetts, New York and France for $2.99.

Sunday was a day of fun and learning for kids of all ages.  All the stations of Townsquare Media along with Alles Brothers Furniture presented the first ever Kids’ Day Fun Fest at the Carson Center on U of E’s campus.  A big thanks to all the attendees and vendors who made this event a huge success.  Check out some pictures from the event and a short video of some of the activities.

Blake Shelton became a country star on his music alone, but since he first appeared on NBC’s ‘The Voice‘ last season, his soft side made him the favored celebrity. In a recent interview, Blake talked about his role on the hit show, his marriage to Miranda Lambert and why he didn’t know how to get to his own home when he was living in L.A.

“I felt a little like the black sheep, he tells Redbook about his beginnings on ‘The Voice.’ ” All of a sudden I was having conversations with people I had only read about in tabloids, and they’re just normal people. And they know who I am, and that I [was] getting married to Miranda, and they know who she is. It was surreal.”

When asked if he’s the Paula Abdul of the show, Blake replied, “You mean because of my alcohol consumption?” LMAO THAT’S onr reason I love Blake!!!!

This Monday, February 20th will mark the 50th anniversary of John Glenn’s historic ride into space, although Glenn was actually the third American in space. It was in 1961 that Alan Shepard and Mitchell, Indiana’s own Gus Grissom flew short suborbital missions to become the first Americans in space. That was the same year Russia launched two cosmonauts into orbit on separate shots. It was in 1962 that Glenn made his historic journey from Cape Canaveral and orbited the Earth three times aboard his Friendship 7 capsule.

Since then, we have put many men on the moon the first of whom was Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969 followed by shipmate Buzz Aldrin.

The next big project for NASA was the Shuttle program which recently came to an end and essentially marking the end of our space exploration. There is talk of resuming the space program, but funding may be an issue even though most are in favor of a new space program. Only time will tell, but where should we go?

Snickers, Twix, M&Ms, 3 Musketeers, Mars and Milky Way bars are all made by Mars Inc. As part of a new health conscious approach, the company has announed that they will discontinue the king-size version of their bars and by 2013, plan to stop shipping all chocolate products that exceed 250 calories. By the way, the king-size Snickers bar contains a staggering 510 calories and a serving size from that bar is one-third of a bar. The regular Snickers bar contains 280 calories so, does that mean they are going to do away with Snickers altogether?? Maybe.

Some people believe that Mars Inc. is trying to reduce the amount of cocoa used in their products because cocoa is so expensive, but the company says it is more a matter of health and nutrition concerns that prompted this move.

Also, the company plans to reduce sodium levels by 25-percent in all Mars food products by 2015 and they will no longer market chocolate products to children under the age of 12. Mars will also put calorie counts on the front of packages and eliminating trans fat.
