Youth Resources to Host Virtual 3- Night Big Man on Campus Talent Show on Facebook
Like every non-profit, the spread of the coronavirus has forced Youth Resources to alter their fundraising plans in order to comply with Governor Eric Holcomb's Stay At Home order. That includes their annual Big Man on Campus talent show which for the first time in its 11 year history will be held virtually.
The show is essentially a male pageant and involves anywhere between five and eight male senior students from Evansville-area high schools competing in three different categories (interview, talent, and school spirit) for the chance to win the crown of Big Man on Campus along with other fabulous prizes donated by local businesses. The past 10 incarnations have been held in one of the high school auditoriums in front of a live crowd of a few hundred students and contestants family, but not this year, because, well, you know.
Instead, the normally one night event will take place during Facebook Live videos on the Youth Resources page tonight, tomorrow, and Friday (April 15th, 16th, and 17th, 2020) at 6:00 p.m. Central. Each night will feature a different category. Tonight will be the interview portion, tomorrow will be the talent segment, and Friday's finale will feature a live group performance in place of the school spirit category.
Outside of giving these five gentlemen the opportunity to have some fun and proudly represent their school, the core goal of the event is to raise money for the organization so they can continue their 25-plus year mission of empowering local teens to become productive members of the community. In previous years, those funds would come from ticket sales and cash donation opportunities during the show itself. Since there are no tickets to sell, the organization will provide links on their Facebook page during the show where you can donate in the name of the contestant you'd like to see win the Crowd Favorite award.
I have had the honor of hosting, or co-hosting, the show for 10 of the 11 years, and will be doing so again for this year's unique take with Erin Meyer. The difference being that I'll be sitting in the comfort of my man cave while Erin will host from the comfort of a room in her home.
Despite the unique circumstances, it will be a fun three nights, and we certainly hope to "see" you each night at 6:00 p.m. for what will no doubt be a Big Man on Campus we'll never forget.
