A Chilling Tale (or Two)!

Who doesn't love a good ghost story? Something about the darkness outside, and hearing a spooky tale that sends shivers down your spine is just the perfect addition to a nice fall night.  I've always loved learning about the creepier things, and I'm fascinated with the haunted history of places. Right here in the Tri-State, we have no shortage of haunted places, especially in New Harmony!

Hauntings of the Murphy Auditorium

In the town of New Harmony sits the Murphy Auditorium. This building is over a century old as it was built in 1913.  There are many stories and local lore surrounding the Murphy Auditorium, but the most well-known story is the one of a janitor named Gus.  According to JoniMayhan.com, legend has it that Gus was cleaning during his normal shift when he fell down a flight of stairs and ended up breaking his neck.  Unfortunately, Gus did not survive his injuries and it's said that his spirit still roams around the old auditorium.

Paranormal Investigation of the Murphy Auditorium

The Murphy Auditorium is known by locals as being haunted due to the number of people who have had paranormal experiences within the walls of the building.  Haunted New Harmony is officially putting that to the test as they're hosting the first ever paranormal investigation of the building, and they've opened the investigation to whoever wants to join.

Haunted New Harmony's website has this to say:

Theaters like this are ripe for a haunting. For many people, it was a place where dreams came true. For others, it was a place of sorrow and anguish. The lost souls often return to relive their happiest moments, while others mourn the loss of what could have been. Join us as we investigate this glorious building for the very first time and find out who lingers there.

The investigation will take place on October 8th from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, if you're interested in joining, you will have to purchase a ticket, which you can do here.
