WOW! There are 525 Bed Bug Reports in Indiana Hotels Right Now
You might want to check your bed before laying down the next time you stay at an Indiana hotel.
You've most likely heard your parents say "sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite" when they tucked you into bed as a child. Nine times out of ten, bed bugs weren't something that people really had to worry about in their homes. Heck, you might have thought that it was just a dumb saying that your parents would just say for the fun of it. However, bed bugs are very real. According to Orkin:
Typically, bed bugs are 3/16 inch long, red to dark brown in color and are mostly nocturnal insects that come out of hiding to take blood meals from sleeping humans. These pests are hematophagous, which means blood is their only food source. They can travel from place to place with ease, clinging to items such as luggage, purses and other personal belongings.
So, this brings me to bed bugs in Indiana hotels. If you're going to an attraction in Indiana, there's a helpful site called Bed Bug Reports that allows anyone to anonymously share their experiences. You can search every single town and city in Indiana and their database will show you when and where bed bugs were found. Spoiler Alert: there are 525 bed bug reports all throughout the state of Indiana. That's a lot!
Since there's no way for me to 100% verify the validity of these claims, I won't share the exact hotels, but here are just a couple of recent reports in Indiana:
Here's one from Indianapolis:
Anonymous:1/13/2024 I was told they were water bugs & that they had never had bedbugs at that property. I showed him the dead bugs I put in a Ziploc baggie & showed him images of each bug. He then yelled at housekeeping lady to go check the room, but she had walked in mid conversation & he never told her what to check for. I asked to be moved to a room the furthest away as possible & was told they were all booked. I then said I wanted to be refunded my money and he adamantly said "No!"
And another example from Evansville:
Anonymous: I woke up with multiple bites on me. When we returned to the room that evening I found one in the bed, snapped a pic and headed to the desk. When I showed the clerk she said it was probably a roach but not a bed bug. Then I showed her some pics off of the Internet. She changed our room and told me to talk to management in the morning. The next morning, she said there is nothing that can be done and management won't be in until Monday. So glad I never have to go back. Now I have treat my luggage to ensure that I don't take them home with me.
