Roberts Stadium is now officially moth-balled. The big question now is what to do with the dated facility which has been the subject of much debate for months, especially since the opening of the Ford Center. Since it was officially closed, it has cost the city over $73,000 and the routine maintenance fees are adding up as we speak. Some say Roberts Stadium should be used as a back-up facility, but that will cost a lot of money on the off chance it gets used for something.

Others say it should be torn down immediately and the space used for something productive and that would generate some kind of revenue.

You will have several more chances to be heard on this issue during a series of public meetings tomorrow, January 26th at 5:30pm at the Centre in Downtown Evansville, this Saturday at Roberts Stadium at 10am or February 1st at 5:30pm at the Centre.

This Saturday's meeting will begin with a tour of the stadium. Mayor Lloyd Winnecke wants to get this issue resolved quickly as do the rest of us.
