Many of us have great memories of Roberts Stadium, but do you know what the final concert at the stadium was?

Roberts Municipal Stadium in Evansville

If you're from the Tri-State, then you know about Roberts Municipal Stadium.  The stadium used to stand on Evansville's East side near Boeke Road and the Lloyd Expressway.  Roberts Stadium was demolished in 2013, and the field where it once stood has sat empty ever since.

Ask anyone from the area "do you remember Roberts Stadium?" and instantly they'll give you a list of the best concerts they saw there, or recount memories of the Evansville Aces playing there.  Heck, I learned to drive a car in the Roberts Stadium Parking lot, and I know I'm not the only one who learned to drive there.

I have many fond memories of the stadium, from going to see the Power Rangers there in the early 90s, to my very first concert, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood in 1997.  I also was an intern and then on air for our sister station 103 GBF and spent a lot of time enjoying rock shows at Roberts Stadium.  My friends and I made a lot of great memories there.  Here's a photo of a baby 18 or 19 year old Melissa with Shinedown.

When Was Roberts Stadium Torn Down?

I wish I could find the photos I took of the demolition of Roberts Stadium, but I cannot find them anywhere. I remember pulling into the parking lot and taking photos of the building when it was half torn down. It was a sad day, but that place held a lot of memories for many of us in the Tri-State.

Here is what EVPL has to say about our old stadium:

The stadium, which was opened in October 1956 and demolished in January 2013, served as a hub for various forms of entertainment for nearly six decades.
Roberts Stadium was the site of many different musical performances from the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra to rock acts like Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, REO Speedwagon, and Bon Jovi. Even the King, Elvis Presley, appeared there in 1976.
However, it was perhaps best known as a sports venue. The University of Evansville Aces called Roberts Stadium home from 1956 to 2011, where they won five Men’s Division II National Championships, including an undefeated season in 1965. Also, every Division II NCAA Men’s Championship Game was played there from 1957 through 1977.
Roberts Stadium moved up a level in 1983 when they hosted the first two rounds of the Division I NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Roberts Stadium received a $16 million renovation in 1990 but was ultimately replaced when the Ford Center was built in downtown Evansville. Roberts Stadium closed for good on October 29, 2011

What Was the Last Concert at Roberts Stadium?

Eventually, all good things must come to an end, and Roberts Stadium had its final concert on August 7th, 2011, when Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker came to town.
