The Story Inn

Located in the little town of Story, Indiana sits an old Inn that is known for being a quaint bed and breakfast with delicious food being served up at their restaurant. The little town where the Story Inn is located has an incredibly interesting history.  You see, the town of Story, Indiana was once a thriving settlement in the 1800s.

Story was founded in 1851, and according to StoryInn.com:

Story soon became the largest settlement in the area. In its heyday (1880-1929) the village supported two general stores, a nondenominational church, a one-room schoolhouse, a grain mill, a sawmill, a slaughterhouse, a blacksmith’s forge and a post office.

If you know U.S. history you know that this is just before the Great Depression, unfortunately, the little town of Story was never able to recover from the depression, after residents had to move away and abandon their farms in search of jobs elsewhere.

Hauntings At the Story Inn

Of course, a place with a history like Story, Indiana, there may just be some past residents who never left. Take the Blue Lady for example, she is said to haunt the Story Inn and there is even a room named after her.  Here is what the Story Inn has to say about the Blue Lady Room:

The Blue Lady Room is named after the “Blue Lady,” a ghost seen by several of our guests, and is located above the historic General Store.

When doing some research to find out who this mysterious "Blue Lady" is, I found an article from Fox59 that says it is believed the Blue Lady is the wife of the man who founded Story Indiana, Dr. George Story.

Guests have recorded hundreds of encounters with her. They say her eyes are hypnotic blue and she smells like cherry tobacco.  She also frequently leaves behind items blue in color. -Fox59

 

A Distraction-Free Getaway

The Story Inn is a well-known bed and breakfast in southern Indiana, many from the Evansville area like to visit for a fun, distraction-free weekend.  According to Story Inn, they are a "distraction-free" destination, so your room won't have a tv, telephone, internet, or even an alarm clock.  Which sounds both relaxing, and a little bit nerve-wracking!  To be honest, count me in!
