This Indiana City Was Named the Best Place to Live in the U.S. in 2024
One Indiana city received some high honors by being named the best place to live in the United States, and another Indiana city wasn't too far behind it on the list.
I am proud to be a native of Indiana. I've lived here my whole life and while I wish we were closer to places like the beach, we still have a lot of great things to offer for a "flyover state". Indiana is full of many small towns with a great deal of charm. We also are home to a few big cities that have a lot to offer residents. Recently, one of these Indiana towns was named one of the best places to live in the country. While it's not my hometown, I think it is a pretty big accolade for the state.
Livability has just released their new 2024 Best Places to Live in the US list and it includes not one, but two Indiana cities in the top five. They use a large number of metrics including "based on nearly 100 data points and an algorithm that takes into account measures of a city’s economy, housing and cost of living, amenities, transportation, environment, safety, education and health". It should be noted that they only considered small to mid-size cities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000, and cities with a median home value of $500,000 or less.
So, which Indiana cities cracked the top five on this list for 2024? Let's take a look.
Two Indiana Cities Among Top Five Best Places to Live in the U.S.
The number one city on this list of best places to live in the United States is none other than Carmel, Indiana. That's a huge accomplishment! Carmel is dubbed the Roundabout Capital of America with 140 of these intersections scattered throughout the town. The city of Carmel is a city that I have passed through quite a few times, and it really is a beautiful place full of great opportunities, food, and entertainment for people of all ages. This isn't the first (or the last time) that Carmel has received high honors like this, but to be the best city to live in the United States, it doesn't get much better than that.
Carmel wasn't the only Indiana city to land on this list. In fact, it wasn't the only Indiana city within the top five. The city of Fishers came in at number four on the list of best places to live in the United States for 2024. According to Livability, Fishers is packed with top-ranked schools, safe neighborhoods, and plenty of parks and recreation, making the city a family-friendly environment without skimping on affordability.
The only other Indiana city to crack the top 100 was Bloomington. It was further down the list, but still an honor to be mentioned among the best places to live in the United States. You can learn more and see the full list by clicking here.
