As I was perusing Twitter earlier today, as one does, I came across the hashtag "FilmStruck4". So I did some exploring and I think this is going to be fun.

FlimStruck is a streaming service that caters to lovers of classic movies. They take their titles from the Criterion Collection and Turner Classic Movies. I just recently got TCM back in my new non-cable world and dang it, I just love movies so much.

So here's the tweet I came across from FilmStruck:

Now I said this would be fun, but it's also a little bit daunting to pick the movies that "define" me. Regardless, here's my #FilmStruck4.

It's a fantasy, it's a musical, and it makes me feel like a kid all over again every time I watch it. It used to air on CBS every year around the time of my Mom's birthday (March 24th). The Wizard of Oz is just one of those movies that defies imagination and wonder.

I don't know if I've ever written this for a WBKR blog before, if I have, forgive me, but The Empire Strikes Back is my number one, absolute favorite movie. I've always tried to explain why. Yes, I'm a huge Star Wars nerd, but my feelings about the the movies, the characters, and the worlds go beyond just being a fan. And I know there's people who are totally not into Star Wars; that's cool. I have to link my love for this movie to my youth. I had many action figures, ships, and I would act out scenes all the time.

I'm taking a little bit of a left turn here. I didn't see Dazed and Confused until I was in college, well after its original 1993 release, yeah, it turns 25 this year, crazy. It ran on this movie channel WKU had on its cable system and it aired over and over. I finally decided to tape it and then I kept watching it over and over. I had a friend point out "Dazed" is a perfect snapshot of what it was like to be a high school student in the 70s. The music, the mood, the locations, it's all on point. Okay, one more...

I read a couple of weeks ago there was a fake story going around that a Napoleon Dynamite sequel was in the works. Um, no, no, no way, no sequels! If I had to depict my high school experience, this movie comes pretty close. I had the distinction of being familiar to many peer groups or cliques. But I was closer to my friends who weren't the jocks or cheerleaders. Honestly, I felt very out of place in high school; I couldn't be myself. We'll leave that story for another time.

Okay, well, I'm going to tag my fellow DJs on this: Chad, Angel, Barb, and Brent. What movies define you?
