If you took our advice and did just that, but you haven't figured out what to name it yet, we'd like to take a moment to help with that, too.

According to the folks at rover.com, 2021 was a big year for pet adoption, which makes sense given the fact that so many of us have been spending more time at home over the last two years.

But, what do you name your new best friend? Rover.com went through its database of some one million pet owners who brought home new dogs in 2021 for the most popular and unique dog names.

The top dog names were almost unchanged from a year ago.

The top male dog names are: Max, Charlie, Cooper, Buddy and Milo.

The most popular female dog names are: Bella, Luna, Lucy, Daisy and Zoe.

The more unique names chosen by new pet owners covered a number of categories.

Yes, there were dogs named COVID, Zoom, Fauchi and Pfizer.

Celebrity dog names included Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Lopez, A-Rod and Doja Cat.

How about naming your dog Bacon, Brisket, Ham or Pork Chop?

And last, but not least, there were new pet owners who named their dogs Reefer, Mary Jane and Doobie.

For the record, our fur-kids are named Frosty, because he's black with what look like frosted highlights on his feet chest, and Abbey, named after a character on one of our favorite TV shows, NCIS.
