Streaker Who Ran Through Indiana Baseball Game Offered Contract
A streaker carrying an American flag recently ran across the field at a Dubois County Bombers game, and now he's been offered to play for the team.
I've only ever been to one baseball game in my entire life. It was at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, when the Cardinals went up against the Cincinnati Reds. I honestly don't remember much from the game itself, because that evening just so happened to be "Star Wars Night" at the stadium. While I was busy taking pictures with cosplayers, browsing fan art, and talking about Star Wars Episode VII with my buddies, others were actually watching the game. That said, I had a great time, and it was a memorable experience.
Speaking of memorable baseball experiences, there was one game played recently in Indiana that attendees will probably never forget. On Thursday, July 25th, the Dubois County Bombers took on the Jackson Rockabillys at home in League Stadium. During the game, an unidentified nude male carrying an American flag ran across the field, evading not one but two trained security officials. He was able to escape via the left field wall, and he never let go of the flag while doing so. Impressive, right?
It's safe to say many folks at the game were caught off guard, and I'm sure not everyone found the incident amusing as it was technically a crime. According to Indy Justice, indecent exposure in Indiana is considered a Class C misdemeanor. If a person is convicted of such a crime, they could spend 60 days in prison and incur fines of up to $500, depending on the circumstances.
A day after the incident, the streaker was located just outside of the small town of Birdseye, Indiana, during the late morning. He was then taken to jail; however, that is not the end of this story. According to a post from the Dubois County Bombers, the owner ultimately decided to dismiss all charges. Additionally, he decided to cut this guy a very unusual deal. Here is what the team said on Friday, July 26, 2024:
After careful consideration and review of the amateur streaking footage, ownership and team GMs decided that given his speed, elusiveness, and overall athletic ability to outrun and out-maneuver not 1 (but 2) trained security guards, they will instead offer him a 1-day contract to play during the season's home finale at League Stadium next Tuesday, July 30th. After a short negotiation, he is expected to sign later this evening and report to team practice tomorrow.
Bombers owner Justin Knepp added the individual showed a lot of guts—both literally and figuratively—and that the team is always looking for speed and talent. Knepp stated he wanted to give the streaker an opportunity to show the team what he can do on the field while fully clothed with a baseball glove. WKDQ has reached out to the Dubois County Bombers team to determine whether or not the contract was actually signed or if the whole ordeal was just a hoax.
