Meet Buddy. Our Pet of the Week from the Vanderburgh Humane Society.

Buddy's Story

Buddy is an 8-year-old mixed breed who the Vanderburgh Humane Society says "is confident in his skills to make you laugh and feel loved." He plays well with other dogs and children, and despite being an older dog, he still has the occasional burst of energy that is absolutely hilarious, as you can see in the video above. Although, as much as he likes to run around a play every once in a while, his favorite thing to do is snuggle.

If you're looking for a snuggle buddy, this Buddy might just be the perfect fit for you. Normally, his adoption fee would be $150, but due to the fact the VHS needs to get dogs out of the shelter as quickly as possible due to limited space, the adoption fees for all dogs over the age of six months (which obviously includes Buddy) are half-off. So, if you think Buddy is the perfect match for you and your family, it will only cost you $75 to take him home, and that price still covers the cost of his neutering, microchipping, and vaccinations.

However, if you or someone you know is over the age of 65 and would like to make Buddy a part of your home, thanks to the VHS Pets for Seniors Program, his adoption will cost nothing!

You can get a jump on the adoption process for Buddy or any of the animals you might be interested in at the VHS by filling out some of the paperwork in advance on the VHS website.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
