Seth James, ‘Third Generation’ Music Video [Exclusive Premiere]

Fans of Shooter Jennings and Chris Stapleton will find a lot to like in James' rough-around-the-edges vocals and outlaw-influenced sound. "Third Generation" is a song written about the frustration he felt as he saw family farms and ranches across the country that had been owned for generations being lost to those who inherited them.

"First generation breaks their back / Second one makes the money," James sings pointedly on the hook. "Third one throws it all away singin' 'Everybody's fault but mine.'"

To make his "Third Generation" video extra personal, James looked to his own loved ones to "star" in the clip, hoping to honor them and their way of life. "These are the faces of my parents, grandparents, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends who are doing their part everyday to maintain a lifestyle that few know still exist," James tells The Boot.

"It was important to me to use this video as a tribute to those that blazed the trail before us," he adds.

A Texas native, James headed to Tennessee to record his most recent album, Good Life, on which "Third Generation" appears. Released in August, the record draws significantly on James' experience growing up on the ranches — and in the juke joints — of West Texas. Since those beginnings in the Lone Star State, James has shared the stage with legends including Leon Russell, Billy Joe Shaver, Delbert McClinton and Buddy Guy.
