Country Music has always been able to weave a patriotic tapestry of emotion. Feelings of love, anger, sadness and bravery form the lyrics to some of the best county songs ever written. These songs will continue to remain in our hearts and minds as long as our brothers, sons and fathers are fighting for freedom.  I found a couple of songs that you may have forgotten on this 4th of July but that deserve to be remembered.

Merle Haggard's, Fighting Side of Me,  is about the Vietnam era. The very powerful lyrics relay the thought  to stand up for what they believe in, but don't run down the country.

The Ballad of Ira Hayes is a folk song,  recorded by Johnny Cash. It tells the true story of an Indian that served in the Marine Corps in World War II, and was one of the men that raised the flag over Iwo Jima. It also speaks of the hardships he went through on his return home.
